When Hope Learned to Walk
“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Jesus Christ.”
- Philippians 1:6 (NIV)
As we walked down the road one day, we came across a house where a woman was sitting outside. We greeted her warmly, introduced ourselves, and offered a free foot massage to her or anyone in her family. Her expression suddenly changed. “My husband had a stroke,” she told us. “Can massage help him?” We explained that massage might help with some of his discomfort and movement, and she invited us inside. Nothing could have prepared us for what we saw.

Lying on a bed was her husband. The entire right side of his body was paralyzed. He could not walk or lift anything. His right arm and leg barely moved, and his speech was difficult to understand. His wife told us that he had suffered his first stroke on July 16, 2025 and a second one on July 31,2025. After being discharged from the hospital on August 4, 2025, his condition remained almost unchanged.
By the time we met him in early December, nearly four months had passed. Humanly speaking, his situation seemed hopeless. Still, we began visiting once a week. We gave him massages, encouraged him, and prayed with him. At first, even the slightest movement caused pain. He could not fully straighten his leg, and his blood pressure remained dangerously high. Throughout December, we kept coming, but the progress was so small that sometimes we wondered if anything was really changing.

Then we heard a testimony from our senior missionary. They shared that they had been visiting someone three to four times a week. Inspired by their experience, we decided to increase our visits to three times a week.
That simple decision became a turning point.
Slowly, we began to see changes. His blood pressure started coming down. The pain decreased. His leg stretched farther. Then, little by little, movement returned to the right side of his body. Every small improvement felt like a gift from God. Months later, when he had regained enough strength in his legs, we began helping him walk again. At first, one of us had to support him as he took a few careful steps. It was slow and difficult, but compared to where he had started, it was incredible.

Then came a day we will never forget. It was extremely hot, and we had spent the entire day visiting homes. We were exhausted, and his house was our final stop. Honestly, we wanted to rest. But we knew we needed to go. When we arrived, he was sitting outside. “Kuya, we're here to massage you,” we said. “Okay,” he replied. Then he stood up. No one held him. He simply stood—and began walking into his house.
For a moment, we could only look at each other. We were speechless. Tears filled our eyes.
The man who once could not move the right side of his body was walking on his own.
At that moment, we realized we were witnessing more than physical recovery. We were witnessing God's mercy. Today, they have not yet been baptized, but the story is not over.
They attended our evangelistic crusade, and his wife has joined us for Sabbath worship several times.

We believe the same God who touched his body is now touching their hearts. Every visit, every massage, and every prayer carried the same hope—that God would not only restore his body but also draw their family closer to Him.
We may no longer be serving in that area, but we trust that God will continue what He has started. We saw a man slowly regain the ability to walk, but we believe there is a greater work still taking place—the work God is doing in his heart and in his family. He began it, and in His perfect time, He will finish it.
