EMBRACING NEW BEGINNINGS

Forget the former things.” These powerful words resonate deep within our souls, urging us to let go of the past and embrace the possibilities of a new chapter. In the book of Isaiah, we are reminded to look forward, for God is doing something extraordinary. “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland” (Isaiah 43:18–19).

Transition. Change. New beginnings.

These concepts often evoke a mixture of excitement and trepidation. Yet, they are essential for growth and personal development. In the midst of our own journeys, we encounter the search for purpose and the courage to never give up.

Jay-ar grew up in an Adventist family in New Bataan, Davao de Oro, as a gay person. He always enjoyed wearing girls’ clothes, experimenting with makeup, and growing his hair long.

As he matured, he delved into various experiences, including using illegal substances, smoking, engaging in same-sex relations, and altering his physical appearance through hormone pills.

He even resorted to creating an ‘OnlyFans’ account to sell intimate videos to support his transition. He distanced himself from the church and left his home to escape constraints, seeking full control and the freedom he craved.

From an early age, Jay-ar faced relentless bullying, emotional anguish, and harsh judgment from those close to him. The weight of these struggles clouded his vision of a brighter future. The notion of serving the Lord seemed unattainable, as he believed himself unworthy of such a calling. Plunged into despair, he contemplated suicide on six separate occasions, convinced that life held no purpose

“If you are brave, say goodbye. Life will reward you with a new hello.”

Amidst a pandemic-induced depression that pushed him to the brink, a video from the 1000 Missionary Movement’s official page caught Jay-ar’s attention, highlighting the battle against pornography. Moved to tears by the message within, he witnessed the bravery of a young woman sharing her struggles and realized that transformation was possible, even for the most troubled souls. He began to believe that change was within his reach. Determined to alter his path, Jay-ar joined the premissionary training in Mindanao.

His journey of transformation commenced with a 40-day United Prayer activity. Prior to immersing himself in the main campus training, Jay-ar sought solace and guidance through heartfelt conversations with God. Each morning, he rose at 3 o’clock to engage in a walking prayer, a sacred ritual that became a beacon of hope amidst his challenges. In the depths of his darkest moments, a glimmer of hope emerged through the pre-training offered by the 1000 Missionary Movement in Mindanao.

This transformative experience equipped Jay-ar with the tools to rekindle his faith and rediscover his true purpose. Through prayer and the study of the Bible, he found solace and strength. Though he continues to grapple with the shadows of his past and the struggle to align his actions with his newfound beliefs, Jay-ar now comprehends that every aspect of life has a purpose. By God’s grace, Jayar’s life has been transformed.

He has come to understand that no external force can alter the essence of who we are. In moments of doubt and uncertainty, he clings to the teachings of Christ, as outlined in the inspiring book of Ellen G. White, “Steps to Christ.” With unwavering faith, he encourages others to persevere, never lose hope, and seek solace in prayer. Jay-ar Robles, a testament to the power of transformation, proudly identifies himself as a member of the 60th batch of missionaries.

His journey serves as a reminder that embracing new beginnings can lead to profound personal growth and a deeper connection with our Creator. Currently extending his service in Banbanan, Taytay, and Palawan, Jay-ar continues to serve others and save precious souls, mirroring the compassion and grace of Jesus in his own life. As we navigate our unique paths, let us heed the call to relinquish the past and embrace the future. Let us find comfort in the knowledge that God is constantly at work in our lives, paving the way even in the most desolate of circumstances.

“You face many defeats in life, but never let yourself be defeated.”
