“Even to your old age and gray hairs I am He; I am He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you. “– Isaiah 46:4

One of the people I admired most in our church was Mommy Meme, our Church Treasurer. At 71 years old, she continued to inspire everyone around her through her faith, dedication, and willingness to serve. While many people her age might have chosen to slow down and enjoy retirement, she remained actively involved in God’s work. She even drove her tricycle to assist literature evangelists, missionaries, and others who were committed to sharing God’s message. Watching her serve so faithfully left a lasting impression on me.

Before meeting Mommy Meme, I often viewed service as something that depended on age, strength, or convenience. However, her example taught me a completely different lesson. I realized that genuine service comes from a willing heart, not from physical ability or a specific season of life. She showed me that when someone is truly committed to God, they will continue finding ways to serve regardless of their age.

Her life reminded me of Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 15:58, encouraging believers to remain steadfast and always active in the work of the Lord. Looking at Mommy Meme’s life, I understood that faithfulness is not measured by how much energy a person has but by their willingness to keep saying “yes” to God every day.
I also reflected on Ellen G. White’s statement in Gospel Workers that age does not release anyone from serving God as long as they still have strength and breath. Mommy Meme embodied that principle. Her silver hair was not a symbol of slowing down but a reminder that a life devoted to God can continue bearing fruit through every stage of life.

The biggest lesson I learned from her was that serving God is a lifelong commitment. It is not something we do only when we are young, energetic, or free from responsibilities. Instead, it becomes a way of life that grows stronger through experience, faith, and trust in God.
Because of her example, I found myself thinking about my own future. I hoped that when I reached her age, I would still have the same passion for serving God and helping others. More than anything, I wanted to remain faithful no matter what season of life I entered.
Mommy Meme’s life taught me that faithfulness is not about how old we are but about how willing we are to be used by God. Her example reminded me that every day is an opportunity to serve, encourage others, and reflect God’s love. That lesson is one I will continue carrying with me for years to come.
