Roadside Grace

One thing I had been learning in the mission field was that not every lesson came through big miracles or dramatic experiences. Sometimes, God taught me through ordinary moments—moments that seemed small at first but ended up leaving a lasting impact on my faith.

One day, we went out for Bible study and visitation with joyful hearts. We were excited to spend time with people, share God’s Word, and continue the work He had called us to do. Everything felt peaceful and purposeful. It was just another normal ministry day—or so we thought.

Right after our Bible study, something unexpected happened. The tricycle we were riding suddenly broke down.

At first, it felt like one of those moments where reality hit hard. We were far from home, and suddenly, the situation felt uncertain. Our driver was only 19 years old and was still new to the job. He didn’t know how to fix the problem, and we could see the stress on his face. To be honest, we felt it too. Questions immediately started running through our minds: How are we getting home? What if nobody can help us? What if we’re stuck here for hours?

It felt like one of those moments where your “main character energy” disappeared and you realized you actually weren’t in control of everything.

But in that uncomfortable situation, I remembered something important. Fear didn’t have to be the loudest voice in the moment. Instead of letting panic take over, we chose to do what we had been learning all along—we prayed and trusted God, even in something as simple as a transportation problem. We also reached out to the family of one of our Bible students and asked for help.

And that was where God reminded me of something I almost overlooked.

Help came—not through some dramatic scene, but in a quiet, timely, and very real way.

Looking back, I realized God had already prepared the answer before we even knew there would be a problem.

That experience taught me something deeply personal: God doesn’t only show up in the big, life-changing miracles. Sometimes He works through delays, inconveniences, and unexpected breakdowns. Sometimes His miracles look like protection, peace in anxious moments, and people showing up at exactly the right time.

What could have become a stressful memory became a reminder that God never left us.

He turned our fear into faith and reminded me that even on uncertain roads, His presence always traveled with us.

To God be all the glory.
