The Faith She Kept

“I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.” —Psalm 40:1–2

“Now I can finally live as a Seventh-day Adventist, just as I wanted to.” Those words carried more than relief. They held the joy of someone who had waited for so long to live out her faith but had been held back by circumstances beyond her control.

For years, Nanay Soon endured a painful life at home. She experienced domestic violence from her husband and often struggled with something many of us might take for granted—having enough food to eat. Life was far from easy, yet through everything she faced, her desire to seek God never completely faded.

She had always wanted to become a Seventh-day Adventist and live according to her faith. However, because of her husband’s opposition, she could not freely attend church and worship God the way she had always wanted to.

Then, one day, everything changed. Her husband left their home, and Nanay Soon began living alone. For some, this kind of change might bring sadness, uncertainty, or a sense of loss. But when Nanay Soon shared her feelings with us, we saw something different.

There was joy in her heart—a sense of relief that, after years of being held back, she could finally pursue the faith she had long desired. For Nanay Soon, this new chapter meant having the freedom to make a decision she had carried in her heart for years.

And her journey did not stop there.

On September 26, 2026, Nanay Soon was baptized as a Seventh-day Adventist. A meaningful milestone. After years of longing to practice her faith freely, she finally took that step and publicly committed herself to God. Her baptism marked the beginning of a new chapter—not because every struggle in her life had suddenly disappeared, but because she had chosen to keep walking with God. Today, Nanay Soon continues to live with joy in God’s love and remains faithful to the path she has chosen.

Her story reminds me that difficult seasons do not have to define the rest of our lives. No matter how long the wait has been, hope can still find its way into our lives. And when a new beginning comes, we can move forward with faith, trusting the God who continues to walk beside us.
